Khaikhtiyo Pagoda, Mon State


    You will be transferred by Air Con Bus to Bago (about 2 hours’ drive), an ancient capital of 16th century (Mon Kingdom), which is famous for its traditional cheroot industry. Visit to Shwe Maw Daw Pagoda, originally built around the 10th century, the tallest pagoda in Myanmar which is higher than Shwe Dagon Pagoda in Yangon. Proceed to Bago Market and continue to Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda (known as Golden Rock Pagoda). Arrive to the Kin Pun ‘base camp’ after 3:30 minutes’ drive and have lunch at local restaurant. Then take a local open truck/bus to drive up to the mountain around 45 minutes. You will see significant views and friendly people along the way up to the mountain. The incredible Golden Rock where the Hair relic of Buddha enshrined in the pagoda is precariously perched on a projecting tabular rock. View the beautiful sunset from Mt. Kyaikhtiyo. Have dinner at local restaurant and overnight at your hotel.


    Golden Rock, top of the mountain. Return back to Bago and have lunch at local restaurant in Bago. Then visit to 55m long and 16m high reclining Shwe-tha-lyaung Buddha which is one of the most impressive Buddha images in Myanmar, and Kyaik Pun Pagoda (mostly known as Lay Myat Hnar Paya – four giant Buddha Images). Continue visit to a Mon weaving and handicraft village producing woven bamboo wares. Return to Yangon.
